Good Morning ABT Dancers & Faithful Readers,
Once again, I am up bright and early. I am looking forward to a fun dance day at Arizona Ballet Theatre where the "Waltz Madness" continues.
During March, 2010 - Miss Megan starts the dance day with her eager Pre-Ballet/Pre-Tap Tiny Dancers; I end with Ballet Technique from 1:30 to 3PM. Mister Norman Walker's Ballet Rehearsal is from 1:00 to 2:00PM today! In between, there are Miss Megan's Jazz Classes and Miss Tori's Tap Classes. My Focus: Melodies of Shostakovitch & my"Waltzes of the Week," as we dance down the path towards our June 5th & 6th Shows.
Steady progress is being made as we dance our way towards our year end performances which will be held, wonderfully, at The Stevie Eller Dance Theatre on the University of Arizona Campus. The performance dates this year are: Saturday, June 5th and Sunday, June 6th with rehearsals at the Theatre Complex in the days leading up to these shows.
BTW - Arizona Ballet Theatre always books our performances for the weekend following the Memorial Day Weekend. There are always so many conflicts for every dancer as the academic school year draws to a close, and every single extracurricular activity comes to its conclusion; At ABT, we begin our preparations early, give everyone Memorial Day Weekend off, and then, go full out into "Performance Mode" the next week.
Please keep this scheduling tradition in mind when you are making your vacation plans; please plan your dates for two weeks after the Memorial day weekend so that your dancer can fully participate in our all-important performances. It is a good thing.
We are still in Tucson's Wonderful Winter Monsoon Season. Today's weather is cloudy with a chance or rain. It's more of Tucson's intriguing springlike weather. If it rains, it will be fun to watch the raindrops dance in the puddles!
Waltz of the Week continues with Waltz Nine! I will continue this essential dance process with you in every class. Each group is at a different place in the process; all my students have a growing ballet waltz vocabulary whether they realize it or not. My personal goal for every one of my ballet students is to be able to execute each waltz combination with the proper style. And, to enjoy it while dancing it!
We are reviewing all nine waltzes today in Ballet Technique from 1:30 to 3pm., which is quite the learning task indeed:) good for the mind and good for the body; improving memory and increasing stamina. Not to mention generating oodles of endorphins. We won't get to them all, but we will dance the new one AND at least one oldie but goody, if not two!
Pink Performance Permission Slips for "Smooth Moves 2010" - June 5th and 6th at The Stevie Eller Dance Theatre on the University of Arizona Campus - are available for you in the Lobby, and need to be returned by March 15th, with a check for the 2010 performance fee attached. Please do not combine this payment with a tuition payment;) I am delighted that most of you have already taken care of this very important requirement!
Email me your questions through the instant email, please. Nothing is too trivial for my sometimes scattered attention. Contact me. Feel free to be persistent.
My Jump Start Class was postponed last week. It is rescheduled for this coming Tuesday March 9th Miss Cecily's Jump Start Ballet is designed to be an Introductory Class into the Wonderful World of Ballet; it is geared to detail-oriented beginning ballet dancers who enjoy the idea of taking the steps apart. I take the time needed to explain several of the barre exercises which provide the foundation of every ballet class I teach at Arizona Ballet Theatre. For me, in terms of my teaching style, this is a very slow class; though, I confess, we do do some fast drills at the very end just for fun:)
Making the personal commitment to learn the language of ballet opens the door into a style of dance which has evolved over the last few centuries. Ballet is logical, refined, expressive and challenging. I highly recommend it. If you have always longed to move like a ballerina, the time is now. Jump Start Ballet, Tuesday, March 9th 2010, will get you started.
It's also a perfect make-up class for those who missed a class. It is an excellent review. Everyone misses concepts and details of technique that suddenly become clear in my Jump Start Ballet Class. It's great for the proverbial Ahaaa Moment.
I will be taking apart our basic barre exercises which I include in every ballet class I teach. Set plies, tendus, the Foot Exercise, and my Stretch Sequence, perhaps some floor drills if we get that far. Together, with 'Moi' as your guide, we will learn the fundamentals on which to build a very extensive vocabulary of movement.

Here are a few photo gems from Arizona Ballet Theatre's Rodeo 2009:
For example, everyone love's Kaley's Signature Kick, where she touches the back of her head with her point shoe, while defying, or at least postponing, gravity.
According to our Webmaster, the hope is that you will immediately apprehend that this is the right place for you or all your family's Dancers to have a wonderful time while learning exceptional skills with a like minded, very caring, and mutually supportive group.
Before anything else, we want to let you know that we are on Flickr! So here is a little song and dance about that...

Thought for the day...
If you take a class that's new to you, especially in a dance explorer mode, expect that the teacher will most likely simply forge ahead AND that you will be expected to do the best you can with very little review of material you most certainly have already missed. While it may feel a little hard for you in the moment, this is quite common practice in the world of dance, especially in schools with a liberal drop-in policy like ABT. Learning how to come up to speed quickly will stand you in good stead in the future... Not just in dance either. People often move into an ongoing project in business and engineering too. You will be able to stay cool and collected and pick up as you go along. Having this skill as part of your "tool kit" or "bag of tricks," and being self assured enough to use it, makes you quite valuable in any field. And, it's fun to learn that way!!
