  • Upcoming this week: This coming Saturday, September 11th, 2010, Jeni will teach an Introductory Hour of her Pilates Mat Class. That's this coming Saturday, Sept 11th, from 11 AM to High Noon. Everyone is invited to attend this Introductory Class, free of charge.

  • This week and next, any New Student may also take Jan's Jump Start Saturday Ballet Class as a welcome guest of ABT, free of charge. This invitation is for new ABT students only:) :) :)

  • Note: Norman's Modern class this coming Saturday is cancelled for Sept.11th only.

  • I am thinking ahead to our Nutcracker Party; SAVE THE DATE! which is - Sunday, December 19th, 2010 ~ from 1 to 3 PM at The Stevie Eller Dance Theatre on the University of Arizona Campus. This is an informal ABT event ` ~ an introduction to the Stage for out Littlest Dancers, presentations from The Nutcracker and previews of our June 2011 show ~ with fun costumes and potluck desserts on the plaza. A Party to celebrate our dance progress in 2010!!!!!

Any individual dancer etches her or his path within the framework established by experienced teachers who provide context, continuity and creativity. Every dancer at ABT should have personal goals - for example: "Today I will focus on my placement" …or…. "I will try to add one more turn (rotation) to my high end (even though it feels like I am defying gravity and I am slightly nervous!)"

Back to the present. I will see everyone later this afternoon ready to dance your hearts out:)

    • Absolute beginners please take note; today you can launch yourself on your personal dance pathway to inner happiness by taking Beginning Ballet with Miss Jan from 5:15 to 6:15. This is the starting point from which all good dance things may flow. It is entirely up to you. My recommendation - do not delay. There is absolutely no time like the present.

      • As I maintain steadfastly, I can teach anyone to turn, and I do. As I am fond of reminding my ballet students, Turning Is Fun, especially once you get the basic principles down. Practice practice practice - or - as I prefer, Obsess obsess obsess.

      In BALLET, obsessing gets results. To borrow from Martha Stewart, "It's a Good Thing!"

      During this class hour, I address, for you, one of the most important and fun aspects of a dancer's required vocabulary - TURNS. A dancer's ability to turn along the entire turning continuum - from one beautifully controlled revolution to many revolutions in-a-row - must be cultivated diligently. It is well worth any effort you put in; results will be obvious. This is a major ballet focus area where I recommend an obsessive (yes - even compulsive) interest. If you focus on the pointers that I share, You will see improvement in your ability to turn very, very quickly. Enough said...

      Learn-to-Turn is a perfect class for any of my dancers who want a Make-up Class. I give a very short barre, so come early to really warm yourself up. Then, we practice, drill, and take apart exactly what you need to execute correctly, certain turn sequences with standardized transitional steps between elements. Also, we practice practice practice...Your job is to know when to focus on control versus focusing on high numbers of rotation. Spinning.

      While it is a more advanced ballet technique class, this is "The Danciest Class" of the ABT Week. It's lots of fun. You may dance this class En Pointe, if you prefer. Either way, it really is fun, and I know from experience that you will really enjoy it.
